Beeswax

Beeswax

It's a slow day at home. My morning walk consisted of going to one of my favorite bakeries, Bullar och Bröd, where I listened to a book, enjoyed a good coffee, and savoured an excellent pain au chocolate. I also watched people passing by, judging their parallel parking skills.

Yesterday I had a delivery of beeswax so when I got home I decided to roll a candle. The lovely smell of waldorf school, or church, depending on which world you come from.

The beeswax plate. I saw some guides recommending heating it up with an hair dryer to make it softer and easier to roll without breaking. I didn't do that and simply used my warm hands which seemed to work fine enough.

Adding the wick to the edge of the beeswax, folding the beeswax around it and tightly wrapping the wick.

Rolling rolling, trying to keep it tight and even. I actully didn't use the entire length of the plate since the candle would get too thick if I did. So I simply cut it where I saw fit and made a short little candle with the remaining piece.
To make the end of the plate smoothly stick to the candle I just used my warm hands again, gently smoothing the edge onto the previous layer.

I worked on a kitchen towel to avoid staining our kitchen table and to avoid food crumbles stuck in the candle.

A bit uneven but I'm sure the next one will be better!

Happy candle-making!
