A visit to Cham Island
A day trip to Cham Island is often recommended for those visiting Da Nang. Despite rescheduling once due to unfavorable weather and almost canceling it altogether during our last weekend in Da Nang due to laziness, we finally went.
Dressed for action and waiting for our pickup.
Silent prayers to not get sick, and they worked! You can't tell from the picture, but I'm actually wearing acupuncture bracelets on my arms, which are supposed to trigger certain points and help with seasickness. I can't definitively say if they help or not; I wish I could conduct a blind test somehow and be you scientific blogger.
Our first stop was the main village on the island. I learned that the island didn't have electricity until 2005 (or was it 2009?) and is on UNESCO's list of important biosphere reserves.
Walking around, looking at cute cows.
Then we hopped back on the boat for a few minutes to reach a good snorkeling spot, where we were to enjoy an hour of snorkeling directly from the boat.
People snorkeling look so...uncool.
Actually, the snorkeling experience wasn't all that great. I had forgotten how panic-inducing it can be to breathe through that little tube, and the marine life wasn't particularly impressive either.
After about 10 minutes of struggling with the breathing tube, I gave up and sat on the boat, watching the others float around, until they took us back to the island for lunch.
The lunch wasn't that good either but they sure had a lot of monkeys.
They were everywhere, trying to steal your food.
I bought a coconut but the monkeys followed me around, staring, so I got all nervous and couldn't finish it.
They they are, with my coconut.
